100 Cups of Coffee (Purposeful Networking)

In June 2023, Adrienne Davis introduced me to Jason Elkins, who shared with me an intriguing idea: his 100 Cups of Coffee Challenge. I was curious, so I decided to meet with Jason over a cup of coffee. Little did I know, this simple concept would have a profound impact on me.

The 100 Cups of Coffee Challenge is straightforward yet powerful. The idea is to meet someone new every day for 100 days, either in person or virtually, to discuss what you both do and explore ways to support each other.

Imagine where you’ll be after challenging yourself to meet a new person every single day for the next 100 days. Imagine where they’ll be. I believe in the power of connections and the importance of putting ourselves out there in the right places with the right people.

Jason's approach might differ slightly, but here are my 7 tips if you are willing to embrace THE 100 CUPS OF COFFEE CHALLENGE:

  1. Placement: Surround yourself with the right groups, events, and associations that can support your business journey.

  2. Set Up Conversations: Reach out to someone new each day, whether it’s through an introduction from a trusted friend or a chance meeting... Ask people "Who is someone you know you think I should be talking to?"

  3. Be Open and Curious: Approach each conversation without expecting immediate sales or prospects. Focus on getting to know the person and understanding their life/business. AND, when you do see an opportunity, be willing to assertively and naturally make an invitation.

  4. Ask Meaningful Questions: Dive deep into their goals, challenges, and passions. Show genuine interest in their journey.

  5. Offer Support: After learning about their needs, ask how you can help. Whether it’s an introduction, wisdom, prayer, or a resource, aim to add value to their life.

  6. Share Your Vision: When the conversation turns to you, clearly and concisely share what you do, who you help, and why it matters. Be ready to explore potential collaborations.

  7. Reciprocate: when they ask how they can help you, be specific about what you need—whether it’s introductions, speaking opportunities, or referrals.

Taking on the 100 Cups of Coffee Challenge can transform your network and open doors you never imagined. If 100 cups in 100 days feels like too much for you, consider aiming for 10, 25, 50, or whatever number aligns with you and your goals. Each meeting is a step towards growth and new opportunities.

Here are some benefits of this challenge:

  •  Building Relationships: Deepen your connections and trust within your network.
  • Gaining Insights: Learn from diverse perspectives and experiences.
  • Finding Opportunities: Discover potential clients, partners, and collaborators.
  • Growing Your Business: Increase your chances of making meaningful connections that lead to growth.

So, are you ready to take on the 100 Cups of Coffee Challenge? Set a number that works for you and a time frame—whether it’s the next 100 days or until the end of the year—and start planning your conversations.

I can assure you that being surrounded by the right people can lead to an incredible shift in your life.
