Avoid Small Talk Traps In Sales

Have you ever gotten off a sales call thinking, "That was a great conversation" only to realize you never actually made an offer?

If so, you’re not alone…

I know you probably talked about their kids. Their church. The weather. Maybe even their dog.

And 20 minutes in, time was almost up, and that person walked away without the help God put you on this earth to give them.

It was supposed to be a call where you served them and invited them to work with you. But the offer never came.

It's not because you don't care. It's because you care too much, and that big heart of yours is quietly avoiding the one thing that would actually help them:

SALES.

And sales avoidance isn't kindness. It's fear wearing a loving disguise.

When you small talk your way through a call and never make the offer, you're not protecting them.

You're protecting yourself. And the person who needed your coaching walks away unchanged.

"Iron sharpens iron, and one person sharpens another."
— Proverbs 27:17

Your sales call is supposed to be that iron. It should feel like coaching. It should challenge them. Move them. And then invite them into transformation.

What if you showed up to every call like your prospect had paid $1,000 just to be there and you owed them every ounce of your God-given wisdom?

You'd skip the surface-level chat. You'd ask the bold, courageous questions. You'd coach them. And then you'd invite them — clearly, lovingly, confidently — to keep going with you.

That's not pushy. That's called being their leader.

I dedicated a full podcast episode to this, so you can learn exactly how to break free from small talk traps and show up as the coach your clients need from minute one.

You were called to important work. Let's stop letting small talk get in the way of it.
