The Two Most Important Commandments

When was the last time you reflected on the two most important commandments: to love God, and to love your neighbor as yourself?
As I recently celebrated my birthday, I found myself overflowing with gratitude for the blessings God has poured into my life this past year—blessings in my business, my family, my neighbors, and my clients. But I know this year hasn’t been easy for everyone. It’s been a time of highs and lows, moments of uncertainty, and unexpected changes for so many of us.
I imagine you’ve probably faced your own share of challenges—whether in your personal life or your coaching business. Through it all, I want to remind you of something simple yet powerful: God is always fathering you, even in the toughest times.
Loving God and our neighbors in every season
The Bible reminds us of the two greatest commandments: to love God, and to love our neighbor as ourselves. And I think this year, more than ever, we’ve all been challenged to lean into that love—especially when things didn’t go as planned.
No matter what this year has brought you, know that God is present in it all. He is walking alongside you through every challenge, using each moment to shape and prepare you for what’s next. Even when the road feels difficult or unclear, He’s working behind the scenes, crafting something greater than you can imagine.
Can you take a moment right now to thank Him for that? For the lessons, for the growth, and for the ways He’s been fathering you, even when it wasn’t obvious? I know it’s not always easy to find gratitude in the middle of hardship, but sometimes the greatest breakthroughs come from the hardest seasons.
Extending Grace to Ourselves
I also want to remind you of something we often overlook: in order to love our neighbors, we must first learn to love ourselves. And that means showing ourselves grace—especially when things don’t go as planned.
I know how easy it is to be hard on yourself, but Jesus tells us to love our neighbors as ourselves, which means we need to treat ourselves with the same kindness, patience, and understanding that we give to others.
If this year has been tough for you, I want to invite you to offer yourself the grace that God gives you so freely. Take a moment to acknowledge that you’re doing the best you can—and that’s enough.
A Moment for Reflection
As I start a new year of life, I’ve been thinking about what I want to carry forward, and I’d love for you to join me in this reflection:
- Where can you show yourself more grace right now?
- What challenges from this year have shaped you in unexpected ways?
- How can you find peace in this moment, even if things haven’t gone exactly as you planned?
No matter what this year has brought, you are making it through. You’re growing, even when it feels hard. And through it all, God is with you, guiding you, loving you, and preparing you for what’s next.
Let’s make this a year where we honor God by loving Him, loving others, and loving ourselves well.
