What is Coaching?

How are you holding up, my friend? I know things can get crazy this time of year—so many plates spinning all at once, right? It feels like there’s always something that needs our energy and attention. But I just want to remind you why you're doing all of this in the first place.
Coaching isn't just “work.” It’s your calling, I know this is what God has called you to do.
Can I share something with you? The other day I found myself thinking about what coaching really means. It reminded me of this little memory about Grace (my daughter who is 6 years old now) when she was learning basketball.
She was trying this drill—toss the ball, clap, catch. Simple, right? Except… not so much. She kept missing the toss or skipping the clap. And man, she was frustrated. She wanted to get it right so badly, but those tears started to come.
I stepped in and tweaked things a bit. Instead of doing the whole thing on her own, I had her toss the ball to me, clap, and then catch it when I tossed it back. It gave her enough space to build confidence. And wouldn’t you know it? After a little practice, she completely nailed it on her own.
That moment stuck with me. It was a reminder that people don’t always need advice or more instructions, they need SPACE. Space to mess up, to try again, to feel supported while they figure things out themselves. Sound familiar?
That’s exactly what you do every day as a coach. You’re creating that space for your clients—you’re their safe place when they’re figuring out their next steps. You’re cheering them on, steadying the ball when they toss it, and helping them build the confidence to take it on themselves.
And just as you do this for them, remember you’re not running this race alone either. God’s right there with you, catching the ball when you need Him, and making space for you to grow, too. It’s such an amazing thing to think about, isn’t it?
Your work matters. You matter. Even when the grind feels hard, you’re making an impact, one life at a time. Keep holding onto that.
I’m rooting for you and praying that this week brings you moments of connection, purpose, and grace. You’ve got this.
